Home-grown tomatoes. (These tomatoes are from our neighbor's little vegetable garden.) Yummy!

We have had a good week. This morning, Lydia and I did the grocery shopping. I made five loaves of banana bread and a batch of Frosty ice cream.

We are getting ready to go to Isaac's 1st birthday party tonight. Greg is grilling hamburgers and hot dogs. We're bringing the hot dog and hamburger buns, and the frosty ice cream. The kids will probably swim in Amanda's pool. (They always enjoy that :) We will have pictures to upload later.

Well, have to go for now. We will post more soon!

The Word of God
~
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
~
Though heart grows faint and spirits sink,
By every wind of feeling blown;
Though faith itself may seem to fail,
I rest upon Thy word alone,
~
That word of power that framed the worlds,
Unfailing, changeless, strong, and sure.
Though heaven and earth should pass away,
What Thou has spoken must endure.
~
Is Thine arm shortened, Thine ear dulled?
What Thou hast sworn hast Thou forgot?
God of the everlasting years,
All else may fail; Thou failest not.
~
Against the foeman's fiery darts
I wield anew the Spirit's sword,
And answer every fresh assault
With ever-fresh "Thus saith the LORD."
~
And, when some promised blessing seems
Too great, too wonderful for me,
I dare by faith to call it mine,
With "It is written" all my plea
~
"Mid shifting sands of doubt and fear
This is the one foundation- stone;
My soul hath cast her anchor here;
I rest upon Thy word alone.

Yesterday, after church, we went on a picnic with Allen's brother Philip and his family. We went to Kerr Scott Dam and Reservoir. We really enjoyed it. We had our picnic, watched the boats, and then went on a walking trail. Here is some of the pictures from the picnic.

Sweet Hour of Prayer
~
Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
That calls me from a world of care,
And bids me at my Father's throne
Make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief
My soul has often found relief,
And oft escaped the tempter's snare
By thy return, sweet hour of prayer!
~
Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
Thy wings shall my petition bear
To Him whose truth and faithfulness
Engage the waiting soul to bless.
And since He bids me seek His face,
Believe His word, and trust His grace,
I'll cast on Him my every care,
And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!
~
Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
May I thy consolation share,
Till, from Mount Pisgah's lofty height,
I view my home and take my flight;
This robe of flesh I'll drop, and rise
To seize the everlasting prize;
And shout, while passing through the air,
Farewell, farewell, sweet hour of prayer!

Yesterday, we went with Allen's parents to see Joy's (Allen's Mom) three aunts in Landis. We had a good time. We visited with Faye first, then we went to her daughter's house for lunch. Gail (Faye's daughter) fixed us cheeseburgers. They were delicious!

Just for fun, which of the aunts do you think is the oldest and the youngest?

Thursday, we went and saw the birthplace of Vance Havner in the Jugtown community. My husband got to talk to his grandnephew. Vance Havner was born in the room at the left window. We also drove past the First Baptist Church of Hickory, where he preached his first sermon. My husband enjoys reading his books.
Here are some of his quotes.
~
Vance Havner Quotes
~
“If they had a social gospel in the days of the prodigal son, somebody would have given him a bed and a sandwich and he never would have gone home.”
~
“Too many church services start at eleven sharp and end at twelve dull.”
~
“I'm tired of hearing sin called sickness and alcoholism a disease.
~
It is the only disease I know of that we're spending hundreds of millions of dollars a year to spread
~
You haven't lost anything when you know were it is.
~
Death can hide but not divide.”
~
“Sometimes your medicine bottle has on it, ''Shake well before using.'' That is what God has to do with some of His people. He has to shake them well before they are ever usable.”
